How did food distributors stay in control of changes during the pandemic?
The COVID-19 period brought about various unprecedented challenges for many businesses in the UAE, including food distributors. The food industry in the UAE faced problems, like supply chain disruptions, border closures, and restrictions in delivery routes. However, food distributors in the UAE, including Al Maya Trading, had to play a huge role in ensuring that the increased food demand was met by ensuring food is available throughout the pandemic. Since the UAE imports a major percentage of food from other parts of the world, this was an important time for food distributors there to manage food supply appropriately. It also led to an increased focus on local food production because there was always a lack of encouragement shown to local food suppliers before.
Local food suppliers and local food brands collaborated together to ensure a consistent food supply to the people of UAE stuck indoors in the pandemic. We, as one of the leading food distributors in the UAE, realized how important it was to reassess our marketing strategies and delivery services and enhance our supply chain system to overcome the resulting obstacles due to the pandemic. So, like us, many food distributors encouraged people to go for healthier alternatives and source healthy ingredients for cooking. We also noticed an increased demand for canned or frozen food items, like drinks, beverages, snacks, and sausages, which we met effectively by supplying our canned products without fail.
However, we could not just rely on increased local food production to meet the daily needs of people, so we also began to opt for more diversification of sources we import from. Some more much-needed solutions involve maintaining strategic stocks to increase local food production and ensuring a sustainable supply of food essentials.
Learning from our experience in the pandemic, we still choose to build a more flexible and reliable supply chain system and encourage people to opt for local food suppliers, instead of always being stubborn about clinging onto global brands. So, in the UAE, farmers have started growing foods, which are not only healthier but also fresh and delicious. They adapted well to sustainable agricultural solutions and dramatically reduced water consumption for local crops.
Food distributors also hired a considerable number of people to ensure smooth, seamless delivery because many people began ordering at a much higher rate than before due to COVID-19 related regulations. So, there was a strong need to make the team of delivery staff bigger and more effective. New technological advancements were introduced to enhance our logistics services and sincere efforts were made to ensure our supplies reach our customers fast and efficiently. People were indoors and everyone obviously expected food products to be fresh, which is why we used to ensure all our collections were updated and replaced consistently.
